They helped to create and sustain Pajhwok, a national\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/pajhwok.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Afghan-owned news agency<\/span><\/a>, and supported the rebuilding of a girls\u2019 school.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/the-exhibit\/artists-talks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Talks<\/a> about their experiences are part of the exhibit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In contrast to her public work, Lisa\u2019s photography was a private solace, as she tried to understand, assist, and then step back from her colleagues while they struggled to rebuild their nation. <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/the-exhibit\/video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #000000; text-decoration: underline;\">[Click here to see video of Lisa talking about the photos.]<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This exhibit grew from Lisa\u2019s desire to give Americans a sense of intimacy with Afghan identity, to better comprehend a country most of us only know through news images.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/the-exhibit\/viewer-comments\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\">Read some of their comments here<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/handicraft-sales\/about-lisa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lisa\u2019s\u00a0background<\/a> in journalism makes her acutely aware of distortions in our perception of people and places in the news.
