{"id":675,"date":"2015-04-28T16:08:22","date_gmt":"2015-04-28T20:08:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/verista.org\/?page_id=675"},"modified":"2021-10-17T14:18:38","modified_gmt":"2021-10-17T18:18:38","slug":"history","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/history\/","title":{"rendered":"History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Verista Inc. traces its history to 2007, when Baraka Foundation was created to raise awareness and conduct fundraising for girls\u2019 education in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n<p>After incorporation as a nonprofit in 2012, Baraka Foundation sponsored presentations of <a href=\"http:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/the-exhibit\/\">Beyond the Mountains<\/a>, a photography exhibit aimed at giving Americans the sense of walking among ordinary Afghans.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/2015\/02\/28\/baraka-foundation-is-now-verista\/\">Renamed Verista<\/a> in 2015, the organization acted as a fiscal sponsor for the <a href=\"https:\/\/herbalista.org\/projects\/herb-bus\/\">Herb Bus<\/a>, a free clinic and mobile classroom based in Atlanta,\u00a0 and <a href=\"https:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/pakistan-journalism\/\">investigative reporting projects<\/a> in Pakistan that seek out multiple perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, the organization expanded its purpose to support all forms of freedom of expression. This has included the <a href=\"https:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/charles-holden-studio-project\/\">development of a studio for kilnformed glass<\/a> in Decatur, GA.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, Verista returned to <a href=\"https:\/\/verista.org\/index.php\/afghan-freedom-of-expression\/\">Afghanistan to aid journalists<\/a> both in and out of the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Verista Inc. traces its history to 2007, when Baraka Foundation was created to raise awareness and conduct fundraising for girls\u2019 education in Afghanistan.
